Steve Rogers memorably abandoned his iconic shield at the end of 2016's Captain America: Civil War, leading to intense speculation that he will reemerge in Avengers: Infinity War as Nomad. The first trailer for that upcoming Marvel Studios film debuted the hero's new costume, and facial hair, and heavily hinted he would receive a replacement -- "Evacuate the city. Engage all defenses," Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther orders, "and get this man a shield" -- but didn't actually show it. However, a new action figure does.

Photos have surfaced of some of the latest additions to Hasbro's Marvel Legends toyline, revealing, among other Infinity War merchandise, the new Captain America figure, complete with shield accessory. But it's not the triangular, star-spangled version that some had expected. Instead, it appears to be of distinctly Wakandan design, as we should have inferred from T'Chala's comment. Presumably, Captain America has Letitia Wright's Shuri, "the smartest person in the world," to thank for its invention.

Whether this new shield has anything to do with the gauntlets Rogers sports in the Infinity War trailer remains to be seen.

As for that Nomad speculation, co-director Joe Russo stopped short of confirming that Chris Evans' hero adopts that classic comic book identity, but will reflect “the spirit of that character.” It's worth nothing the Legends action figure is clearly labeled as "Captain America," and not "Steve Rogers" or "Nomad."

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Vin Diesel as Groot, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Josh Brolin as Thanos. The film opens May 28.
