WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Captain America #12 by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Adam Kubert, Matt Milla and Joe Caramagna, in stores now.

In Captain America #12, Steve Rogers realizes that, thanks to the events of Secret Empire and the machinations of the evil organization known as the Power Elite, the public simply doesn't believe in the red, white and blue shield anymore. For that reason, he hangs it up, and lets go of the Captain America mantle.

But he isn't giving up. He's just changing costumes and identities to better serve his country, and the dream it still believes in. To do so, he visits his own personal hideout, where all of his old costumes appear on display. Yes, like his fellow Avenger Iron Man, Cap also has his own version of Tony's 'Hall of Armors.'

And fans are bound to recognize most of these suits -- from the comics to the big screen and, yes, even the TV movie.

Captain America Hall of Armors

As Steve walks into his hall of costumes to hang up his shield, we instantly spot some classic and fan-favorite costumes. There is, of course, the iconic World War II outfit he wore in the 1940s. There is also the U.S.Agent costume, the recognizable yellow cape and deep v-line of the infamous Nomad suit, as well as the Commander Rogers uniform from Marvel's Heroic Age -- a suit that Steve ends up putting on again at the end of the issue.

But not all of the costumes on display are tied to the regular Marvel Universe. In fact, we also see Steve's World War II costume from the Ultimate Universe, as well as an outfit inspired by the one the character sported in the Avengers Assemble cartoon. What's more, there's even a suit that appears to be the one worn by Steve Rogers in the 2012 Marvel Cinematic Universe film, The Avengers.

Finally, the suit from the 1979 TV movie Captain America starring Reb Brown as the title character is proudly featured in the hall. The iconic motorcycle helmet is easily recognizable, as is the plastic-like, see-through shield from the film.

He may not exactly be Iron Man, but Steve Rogers does have a generous number of costumes when you factor in the comics, cartoons and big screen movies. The issue's hall of costumes is meant to honor the past of the character, in all the mediums he has appeared in. It's great to see some of these costumes make a return, and be acknowledged in the comics.

Now, we witness the return of an old fan-favorite: As Steve Rogers steps away from the mantle, he puts on an old costume that symbolizes the heroic super soldier he is. Costumes change, but the fight always goes on.

Captain America #13 hits shelves Aug. 28.
