“Captain America: Civil War” Passes $300m at Domestic Box Office

A week and a half after its debut, “Captain America: Civil War” has officially crossed $300 million at the domestic box office. According to BoxOffice, a Monday haul of $4.7m pushed the film’s total domestic box office gross to $300.7m.

Last weekend, “Civil War” scored $72.6m at the domestic box office, where it held its first place spot. This earned the film the title of eighth-largest second weekend of all time. The movie is reportedly on a similar track as “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Iron Man 3.”

Marvel Studios Films Have Grossed Over $10 Billion Worldwide

“Captain America: Civil War” scored the fifth-biggest box office opening of all time in North America, behind record-holders “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $248 million, “Jurassic World” with $208.8 million, and familiar team-ups “Marvel’s The Avengers” with $207.4 million and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with $191.3 million. “Captain America: Civil War” knocked off the third installment of Marvel’s “Iron Man” franchise for fifth place in the all-time record books, which brought in $174.1 million. The $166 million opening of Warner Bros.’ “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” earlier this year is now good for eighth place among biggest domestic openings in Hollywood history.

Though technically a sequel to “Captain America’s” second solo outing “The Winter Solider,” the movie boasts an impressive list of characters, including Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon and Bucky Barnes, as they butt heads over a document called the Sokovia Accords. It also introduces several new characters, like Black Panther. The film also marks Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and more, “Captain America: Civil War” is now in theaters.
