The Marvel Studios sequel is already playing in 63 percent of the overseas market, with China, Russia, Italy and Argentina to join in next weekend (along with the United States, of course).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Civil War” actually debuted ahead of “Age of Ultron” in some territories, scoring record openings in Mexico ($20.6 million), Brazil ($12.3 million) and the Philippines ($7.5 million).
Deadline adds that Disney’s estimates place the opening of “Civil War” at 5 percent behind “Age of Ultron,” 26 percent ahead of “Iron Man 3” and “The Avengers,” and a whopping 157 percent ahead of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” when comparing the same territories and factoring in exchange rates.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp and Tom Holland.
