Famed director and President of Skydance New Media Amy Hennig joined D23 to unveil its secret Marvel project that takes players to World War II with Captain America and Black Panther.

According to the cinematic trailer, players can take on the role of either Cap, Black Panther, a Dora Milaje or a soldier as they battle hydra's forces. The trailer implies much of the action takes place in Paris. The trailer gave no release window. A press release reveals that "as the game's narrative unfolds, players will be able to play an ensemble of four characters: a young Steve Rogers, aka Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa's grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network. Players can look forward to intuitive controls and exhilarating second-to-second gameplay that captures the action and excitement of Marvel, inspired by landmark comics, television, and films, as they navigate this all-new globe-trotting adventure."

Legendary Uncharted Director's Marvel Vision

Marvel first announced its partnership with Hennig's Skydance New Media in October 2021, though neither company gave definitive details about the project at the time. It marks the first game for the developer since its founding in 2019. Notably, its second game will also be a famed Disney property, as earlier in 2022, it announced its work on a cinematic Star Wars title in collaboration with LucasFilm Games. Hennig, who famously created the popular Uncharted series, expressed enthusiasm at working on a Marvel title for the developer's first game at the time of the initial announcement.

"I can't imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game," said Hennig. "The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It's an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love."

Rumors quickly surfaced in the months following the announcement as fans speculated which character or team might feature in the AAA game. An episode of the Fatman Beyond podcast spawned numerous discussions after co-host Marc Bernardin confirmed to Kevin Smith that he'd been working on Hennig's then-untitled Marvel project. Fans took to the comments section, attempting to guess at what or who Skydance's game is centered on, with Smith noting that some had guessed correctly. Ben Hanson, an industry insider, indicated that the most viable options in the comments thread had been Ant-Man or the Fantastic Four.

D23's announcement of a presentation on Skydance's Marvel game caused further speculation. Eagle-eyed fans noted that the blog post revealing the Disney and Marvel Games showcase referred to Skydance's title as an "ensemble" game. This quickly spawned into fervent theorizing from fans that the game would center around Marvel's first family, the Fantastic Four, given this latest tidbit and Hanson's previous comments about the Fatman Beyond interview. However, a recent leak suggested the game might actually be about Captain America and Black Panther in World War II.

The untitled Skydance New Media game does not yet have a release window.
