Marvel's first character to use the name of Nomad was Steve Rogers/Captain America, who had abandoned his original patriotic identity after he uncovered a conspiracy high-up in the US government that caused him to lose faith, leading to his new role as a man without a country.

Rogers wouldn't be the last Nomad as four other characters would wear his costume over the years, though the uniform would thankfully get a few modern upgrades with each new generation. Each new version of the outfit was mostly an improvement, though there were a couple of costumes that fans don't want to see in the comics again.

10 Loved: Steve Rogers (Cover)

Steve Rogers once took the name Nomad, but the name was definitely misleading

After Steve Rogers discovered a high-ranking White House official working with the villainous Secret Empire, he resigned as Captain America but found he wasn't able to give up on helping people, so he designed a new costume.

The first appearance of his Nomad costume was on the cover of Captain America and the Falcon #180, which actually featured a different color palette that darkened the bodysuit and replaced the usual yellow with red, making fans wish that version of the costume appeared within the comic as well.

9 Never Again: Steve Rogers/Edward Ferbel

Unfortunately, the actual Nomad costume that debuted within the same issue was a lighter blue and yellow that, combined with the low-cut tunic, erased the character's intimidation factor and went down in history as one of Rogers' worst looks.

An actor named Edward Ferbel was later hired to become a new Nomad during one of Red Skull's schemes, and he wore a simplified version of Rogers' former costume. Unfortunately, he was murdered before he could benefit from his newfound fame as Los Angeles' newest hero.

8 Loved: Jack Monroe II

While Jack Monroe was one of the first characters to take on the role of Nomad after it was created by Steve Rogers, he also gave the costume a much need overhaul that debuted in his first mini-series in the 90s.

His new costume kept the golden discs of the original costume but replaced the blue and yellow spandex with a dark bodysuit, reflective shades and a huge gold "N" belt buckle. This costume was given a further 90s overhaul for the Nomad ongoing with an added trench coat and pouches that helped give the character a new edge.

7 Never Again: Jack Monroe

Jack Monroe's plummeting neckline as Nomad.

Jack Monroe's first superhero identity was actually Bucky as he briefly worked alongside a replacement Captain America after the disappearances of the original WWII heroes, though when Monroe reappeared years later, he gained a new costume and role.

Monroe became the new Nomad and adopted a modified version of Steve Roger's original costume that he wore as his partner for months. Jack would later update the costume himself and begin Nomad's slow evolution away from the superhero image and into a more casual biker look.

6 Loved: Rikki Barnes II

Young Allies Nomad Rikki Barnes Marvel Comics

Rikki Barnes is another former Bucky from the Marvel multiverse who took on the Nomad identity after she first arrived in the mainstream 616 universe when Black Widow took an interest in the young crime-fighter.

Black Widow helped set Rikki on a new path and gave her a new costume that blended her former Bucky look with the colors of the original Nomad costume. Her Nomad costume would get a later redesign that further updated the costume when she began working alongside the Young Allies.

5 Never Again: Scourge

Captain America Nomad Jack Monroe Scourge Marvel Comics

Monroe lived a troubled life both as Bucky and Nomad and suffered a number of problems due to the flawed super-soldier serum that enhanced his abilities and multiple instances of brainwashing and manipulations that ultimately led to his presumed death.

However, Monroe would unknowingly return as the newest Scourge of the Underworld who would be revealed as a mind-controlled puppet of a rogue arm of the government. The Scourge costume was built to utilize a number of villain's tools and weapons while also hiding his identity, though it included a few nods to his former identities.

4 Loved: Ian Rogers

However, Captain America was able to rescue baby Leopold and raise him as his son Ian Rogers while they launched a rebellion against Zola. While Ian briefly returned to his father's side and adopted his first villainous costume, it was later altered to reflect his adopted father when he became Nomad, the last defender of Dimension Z.

3 Never Again: Rikki Barnes I

Heroes Reborn Rikki Barnes Bucky Nomad Marvel Comics

The character of Rebecca "Rikki" Barnes first appeared during the Heroes Reborn event that brought in superstar creators to update and reimagine heroes like the Avengers and the Fantastic Four after the Onslaught event.

Rikki would join with that reality's Captain America as his new Bucky with a very casual take on the costume, which she would further modify into the more familiar Bucky costume when she helped form her world's Young Allies. She would wear this costume for years before arriving on the mainstream 616 Earth and gaining her first Nomad uniform.

2 Loved: Ian Rogers II

Captain America Nomad Ian Rogers adult Marvel Comics

Time moved differently in Dimension Z, which meant that while only a few months had passed for Captain America after he returned from Dimension Z, Ian had grown to adulthood as the new Nomad before he found his way to his adopted father's reality.

He first appeared in a spiked armor that shared the same colors as the original Nomad costume, though he further modified it to blend his armor with the iconic golden discs from the original costume when he became Sam Wilson/Captain America's new partner before he was killed by Baron Zemo.

1 Never Again: Rikki Barnes III

Future Foundation Nomad Rikki Barnes Marvel Comics

Rikki Barnes' life as Nomad was filled with further tragedies as she found herself inextricably connected to the Onslaught entity, which would result in multiple deaths and rebirths that shuffled Nomad through the Multiverse with each rebirth.

When she again returned to the mainstream reality during the latest Future Foundation mini-series, her costume was given a serious militaristic overhaul that abandoned the evolutions of her previous look. Aside from her use of Captain America's energy shield, the rest of the costume is largely forgettable.
