Sharon Carter returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier after disappearing in the years following Captain America: Civil War. The former S.H.I.E.L.D agent is set to return in the upcoming Captain America 4, in a slightly different role.

According to That Hashtag Show, Carter was originally intended to be the film's primary antagonist, but due to the negative response that her new role as the Power Broker received, Marvel Studios opted to reduce her role and introduce a new supervillain to the film instead. Emily VanCamp will return as Carter, but it is unknown what her new role will be.

After aiding Captain America in his attempt to find and capture Baron Zemo, despite the rules imposed on superheroes by the Sokovia Accords, Carter fled to escape incarceration, evidently settling in Madripoor, where she became the Power Broker through black market trading and other illicit activities.

Details concerning Captain America 4 are scarce. It was announced shortly after the conclusion of The Falcon and Winter Soldier with series creator Malcolm Spellman attached to pen the script.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. All episodes are now available for streaming on Disney+.
