Carl Lumbly will reprise the role of Isaiah Bradley in Captain America: New World Order.

The announcement came at the D23 Expo, a Comic-Con-like fan convention where the House of Mouse reveals trailers, castings and other news regarding its upcoming Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Lucasfilm projects. Lumbly appeared on stage with the rest of the cast of the film.

Marvel Studios also confirmed at D23 that Tim Blake Nelson would reprise his role as the Leader in the upcoming film, while Danny Ramirez will return as Joaquin Torres. Nelson was last seen in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, while Ramirez starred in Disney+'s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is also where Lumbly made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut. They join Anthony Mackie, who will lead the film as Sam Wilson / Captain America, and Shira Haas, who will portray the Israeli superhero Sabra.

Created by Axel Alonso, Robert Morales and Kyle Baker, Isaiah Bradley made his comics debut in Truth: Red, White & Black #1, a 2003 limited series that revealed that Bradley was one of 300 Black men the U.S. government experimented on to try and recreate the super soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America. The only survivor of the experiment, Bradley ends up destroying a Nazi lab and concentration camp, only to be imprisoned by the U.S. military for stealing one of Steven Rogers' uniforms. He is eventually pardoned but is never acknowledged by the U.S. government for his heroic work. Elements of Truth: Red, White & Black were adapted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, including the experiments that gave Bradley his superpowers and the lack of acknowledgment by the U.S. government.
