The season finale of Falcon and Winter Soldier ended with Sam Wilson donning a comics-accurate Captain America costume to officially take on the mantle from Steve Rogers. Together with Bucky Barnes, Sharon Carter and John Walker (now going by the moniker US Agent), the foursome helped stop the Flag Smashers. The final title card for Falcon and Winter Soldier switched its wording to Captain America and the Winter Soldier.

"Truth," Episode 5 of Falcon and Winter Soldier, ended with Sam opening the Wakandan briefcase that Bucky called in a favor for. "One World, One People," the season finale of Falcon and Winter Soldier, officially introduced Sam as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America in his red-white-and-blue superhero costume.

MCU fans began speculating early Friday morning on the possibility of Falcon and Winter Soldier receiving a second season on Disney+, especially in regards to the Captain America and the Winter Soldier title reveal in the finale. "Captain America" and #FalconandWinterSoldierFinale were both top trending topics on Twitter Friday morning.

Chris Evans previously portrayed Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in the MCU in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and 2016's Captain America: Civil War. He was also a part of the ensemble Avengers films: 2012's The Avengers, 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

A January report stated that Chris Evans was slated to reprise his role as Captain America in the MCU, following his character's retirement in the final moments of Endgame. However, Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige debunked reports of Chris Evans' return in March. "I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself," Feige said. This was in response to Evans tweeting, "News to me" after he started reading the January speculation.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The entire first season is available to stream on Disney+.
