Marvel Cinematic Universe star Anthony Mackie praised the originality on display in Disney+'s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

In a recent interview with IMDb, Mackie, who now plays Captain America, talked about the future of his character in the MCU and cited She-Hulk as a prime example of why he's excited about his future adventures. Speaking of the Disney+ show, he said, "You could see Marvel giving writers the opportunity to spread their wings and look at the Marvel universe in a different way."

She-Hulk stands out when compared to other superhero shows, as it is mostly a show about a woman navigating things like online dating and the obstacles of working in a male-dominated industry. She-Hulk head writer Jessica Gao believes the show's writing room, which consisted of mostly woman, added an important dimension to the newest Marvel show. "We all had these experiences, everyone had a different perspective and point of view and we just mined each other’s lives," Gao said. "A lot of the time it was just a lot of discussions about what it's like being a woman and what it would be like to be a woman who is a superhero and in the public eye."

Mackie was last seen in the MCU on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and will be returning in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order. The Mackie and Sebastian Stan-led Disney+ show focused on Mackie's evolution from the Falcon to Captain America, finally accepting the shield Steve Rogers left for him.

The Mantle of Captain America

Chris Evans, who previously portrayed Captain America across 10 MCU films, believes Mackie is the perfect man to take up the mantle. "He does it justice and I'm so proud of him," Evans said. "I can't wait to see what [Marvel Studios does] in the future with [the Captain America franchise]."

While Mackie has stated his desire to see Evans return to the MCU, the former Captain America actor thinks it may not be the best idea. "I love what those movies accomplished and to revisit it and potentially have some weird extension to that legacy would be upsetting if it didn't land," Evans stated. "So it would require a near-perfect recipe and it may just not be in the cards."

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is now streaming on Disney+ with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Captain America: New World Order will premiere in theaters May 3, 2024.
