The trailer for the failed Tremors TV reboot starring Kevin Bacon has leaked, and it has us wondering why Syfy ultimately passed on the series.

When it was officially announced last year that actor Kevin Bacon would be returning as Valentine McKee in a Tremors pilot for Syfy, it seemed all but certain the series would be picked up. Surprisingly, that was not the case, and the leaked trailer for the pilot that was filmed begs to question -- what the heck was the network thinking?

Bacon revealed the news that Syfy had passed on the pilot a couple of weeks ago, explaining that his hopes of returning to the world of Perfection would not become a reality despite making an "excellent pilot." At the time, it was suggested that Blumhouse and Universal Cable Productions may attempt to find a new home for the series. While things have been quiet on that end, the leaked trailer for the pilot may just help to secure a new home for the planned series.

The pilot for Tremors takes place 25 years after the events of the 1990 film, with Valentine McKee (Bacon) called back home to Perfection, Nevada to defeat the Graboids -- again. The actor was joined by P.J. Byrne (Big Little Lies), Hunter Parrish (Weeds), Ebonée Noel (Wrecked), Brandon Jay McLaren (Ransom) and Haley Tju (Bella and the Bulldogs).

The series would have been Syfy's second attempt at bringing the franchise to the small screen. The network aired Tremors in 2003, which ran for thirteen episodes and starred Victor Browne. The Kevin Bacon-led pilot was meant to serve as a reboot. Bacon served as an executive producer on the project alongside Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle), who also served as the showrunner, and David Schiff (Southpaw). Bacon and Miller have been attached to the television reboot since 2015.

While the franchise has failed to succeed on the small screen, it continues to thrive in the direct-to-video market as the original film has spawned five sequels, with the latest being Tremors 6, which released back in January. The latest film stars Michael Gross and Jamie Kennedy and was never meant to connect to the planned television reboot.
