Canceled Boba Fett Movie Would Have Followed This Infamous Star Wars Crew

The Boba Fett movie is officially dead, but new details have recently emerged that reveal plot points for what might have been in the standalone Star Wars story.

The lizard-like Bossk, the head wrap-sporting Dengar, a rogue protocol droid dubbed 4-Lom, the insectoid tracker Zuckuss, the IC-88 assassin droid, and of course Boba Fett himself, were all hired by Darth Vader in Empire to find the Millennium Falcon, "by any methods necessary." The Sith lord noted in particular to Fett that he wanted the Falcon's crew alive, wagging a finger in his face and pointedly instructing, "No disintegration."

The backgrounds of these bounty hunters have since been expanded to varying degrees over the years, both within and outside of main Star Wars continuity. Boba Fett seemingly would have fleshed-out their characters more, however, as they worked with and against each other to capture the Falcon and her crew.

Before being loosely attached to Logan director James Mangold (who subsequently denied any involvement), the Boba Fett film was originally planned with director Josh Trank at the Helm. His allegedly erratic on-set behavior during the 2015 Fantastic 4 reboot, however, forced Disney to reconsider his appointment before ultimately firing him from the project.

After the returns of Solo: A Star Wars Story reportedly disappointed the studio, Disney quietly let the film stall. Last week, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy officially announced, via journalist Erick Weber, that "the Boba Fett movie was 100% dead."

Luckily for fans of Boba Fett lore, Jon Favreau's series, The Mandalorian, has been confirmed to hit Disney's streaming service in 2019. How much that will deal specifically with Boba Fett, however, remains to be seen.
