The Summer 2022 anime season is launching one must-watch title after another. There are a handful of returning series such as Overlord and Made in Abyss along with some slick new titles like The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting, Engage Kiss and especially Call of the Night. The real fun begins when the sun goes down.

Call of the Night is a brand-new shonen action/adventure story that follows the "ordinary character and their extraordinary new friend" trend in anime. A junior high school student named Ko meets a wild, carefree vampire lady who is about to turn his life upside down in the moon's pale light. Ko once thought he was an ordinary boy with a boring life, but that's over now. Here's a preview of what to expect from Summer 2022's Call of the Night.

The Plot & Premise of Call of the Night

Ko and Nazuna flying

Only basic details are known about Call of the Night from the anime's short trailer, but they are certainly promising. The story stars Yamori Ko, an unremarkable junior high student who gets bored of his routine daily life and stops going to school. He doesn't have any exciting hobbies or projects of his own to pursue, however, so he has pent-up energy and no way to release it. That means he wanders on sleepless nights just to keep himself busy -- but the night will soon get busy with him, too. In the darkness, Ko meets a hedonistic, carefree vampire lady named Nanakusa Nazuna, who immediately befriends him and invites him to spend some time with her. This is the adventure Ko was waiting for.

Dark creatures like vampires never make these offers freely though; there is always a price to pay. Nazuna will gladly help Ko to reignite his passion and find some meaning in his daily life, but she just might bite his neck and drain his blood in exchange. If she can generously give Ko what he desires, he'd better pay a blood tribute -- and if Ko knows what he's doing, he may earn the right to become a mighty vampire himself. Perhaps a romance will even bloom in this new vampire anime.
