Activision dropped the first official teaser for Call of Duty: Vanguard, confirming the game's existence.

The trailer, which seems to be live-action in nature, features scenes from a variety of war-torn locations. Some of the depicted areas include a shelled building, a desert adorned with destroyed vehicles, a misty forest fortified with sandbags and barbed wire and a scenic beach littered with shrapnel.

While the trailer doesn't reveal anything in terms of gameplay, it does hint towards the game's story. The hook of the teaser features a variety of clever perspective shots which highlight faces shown through the environment. The final shot depicts a four-person squad in the heat of battle; observant viewers will notice that the faces correlate to the squad members. "Whatever we do, we do it together," teases the trailer's narrator.

The first official teaser trailer confirms months of rumors that the next Call of Duty would be returning to World War II. The areas shown in the trailer, as well as the featured weapons and equipment, confirm that the franchise will be returning to the past. The variety of locations suggest that the game will take place across several theatres of war rather than focusing on one area.

Leaked key art for Call of Duty: Vanguard, which also makes use of the imagery seen in the teaser trailer, confirmed that several editions of the game will be available at launch. The Ultimate Edition of the game will include unique skins for Call of Duty: Warzone, experience boosts and access to the game's open beta.

The teaser trailer concludes with confirmation that the game will be formally revealed via an in-game event in Call of Duty: Warzone, Activision's free battle royale game. To catch the action, players will need to log into Warzone on Aug. 19.
