Leaked key art for the next Call of Duty confirms both the game's title and setting. The images, which leaked online due to their inclusion in the most recent update for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, confirm that the next game is subtitled Vanguard and is set during World War II. While the images were initially compiled by Call of Duty news site Charlie Intel, many of them have since been removed following copyright strikes from publisher Activision.Related: REPORT: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to Receive 12 New Maps

While certain images were deleted, many fans were quick to upload them to Imgur albums. The art features a diverse squad of soldiers fighting in what appears to be World War II. The overhead planes, old-fashioned firearms and palm trees suggest that at least part of the game will take place in the Pacific theatre.

Beyond the key art, fans also uncovered what appears to be the contents including the Ultimate Edition of Call of Duty: Vanguard. Three new operator skins are listed alongside what appear to be modified versions of World War II weaponry. The image also confirms a planned early access open beta which will likely only be available to those who purchase the more elaborate editions.

While none of this information on Call of Duty: Vanguard is official, the leaked key art does corroborate rumors that the game would head back to World War II. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Vanguard is expected to offer the usual suite of multiplayer and campaign options. It will also reportedly tie into the free-to-play battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone, much like 2020's Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.

As for when the game will launch, that is still unknown. A release date will likely be included in the official announcement of Call of Duty: Vanguard. The key art does suggest that the game will launch for both current and older console generations, supported by the "Cross-Gen Bundle" image. This means Sledgehammer Games' latest project will likely be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
