Call Of Duty Goes Grindhouse With Romero For Next Zombies Map

Movies and television are the focus here at Spinoff Online, but here's some video game news that has an odd(ly awesome) connection to Hollywood. Call of Duty: Black Ops, one of the most popular games on the planet, has a unique online co-op mode in which up to four players fend off wave after wave of zombies. There's no end point to the mode, you simply survive as long as you can using whatever tools are available on the map you've selected to play through.

Next week brings a new downloadable content pack to the game which adds, among other things, the new zombies map, "Call of the Dead." Activision has released a trailer focused specifically on that map, which apparently pays homage to Night of the Living Dead director George A. Romero. It's more than that, though: Romero is actually in the game, likeness, voice and all, with a story that seems to revolve around some kind of zombie movie production that goes horribly, horribly wrong.

The announcement trailer doesn't reveal much of the story, but it does show the rest of the map's surprise Hollywood cast. There's also a very strong grindhouse vibe here, as you'll see. Check it...

There's a second video that shows a bit more of the map while also offering some story hints. This one is much more focused on the game itself, but a brief clip at the beginning features a virtual Romero running through the basic setup...
