This is "Foundationed Deep," a feature where we look at particular odd/strange/interesting instances of retroactively connecting different comic book characters (for instance, Uncanny X-Men #268 retroactively established that Wolverine knew both Captain America and the Black Widow from World War II).

Today, we look at how Cable met Rogue when she was still a kid.

Cable, due to his time traveling, is pretty much the king of this trope, but the problem with doing it too much is that you run into the whole "But why didn't he mention anything when he later "met" them for the first time?" That's a particularly good question in this particular instance.

As many Rogue fans know, the earliest use of her powers was when she kissed her boyfriend, Cody, and ended up putting him into a coma, as she absorbed enough of his personality to knock him into a coma.

Well, in case you were ever wondering what happened when his friends found out what had happened, the answer was given in "Cable" #87, by Robert Weinberg and Michael Ryan, as we see a time-traveling Cable accidentally run into Rogue as she was being hunted by Cody's angry friends...

Gotta love that outfit that Cable is wearing.

Anyhow, I guess the idea is that Rogue was so out of it that she never remembered that it was Cable who saved her, especially since they didn't "meet" again until many years later.

Rogue at least put Cable on to the X-Men when she was allowed to choose her own team, so maybe she remembered part of it deep down...
