Though Josh Brolin has taken on a number of comic-book roles, one of the most recognizable is that of the time-traveling mutant soldier Cable in Deadpool 2. According to Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, Brolin is eager to return to the role and would pack on even more muscle in the process.

Liefeld told ComicBook.com that he had met with the actor some time before Deadpool 2 opened in theaters, "Then he's like, 'Hey, can you take me to the gym?'" Liefeld continued, "Because he was telling me how he's much bigger he's gonna get... His shoulders were gonna get broader. And I met his trainer and I'm like, 'Oh, you can't wait until we revisit Cable.'" According to the comic book writer, Brolin had already been discussing the future of Cable with Fox at the time.

Cable made his live-action debut in Deadpool 2, in which he served as the film's vengeful deuteragonist; he intended to kill a young mutant named Russell who murdered his family in the future. The future of the Deadpool franchise has been uncertain ever since Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

Aside from Cable, Brolin is known for other comic-book roles that include the Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, as well as the titular character in the 2010 Jonah Hex film.
