Despite recently appearing on the big screen for the first time in Deadpool 2, it sounds like time-hopping mutant Cable isn’t fairing so well in the comic book department. Cable writer Zac Thompson recently revealed in a series of tweets that the comic will be coming to an end shortly.RELATED: Cable and Deadpool Reunite for New Marvel AnnualKeen-eyed readers no doubt noticed the series’ absence in Marvel’s August solicitations and put two and two together from there. For those who were surprised or simply grieving, Thompson penned a eulogy of sorts for the series, reaffirming his love for Cable and vowing to pen a story starring him again.

Thompson and Lonnie Nadler’s Cable run, which began with Cable #155, focused on an integral aspect of the character’s backstory that was rarely touched on in the comics -- the techno-organic virus infecting Cable's body. The duo introduced the personified version of that threat in Metus, a misshapen monster that wants nothing more than to see Cable alone and beaten down, while also exploring Cable’s extended, sometimes bewildering family tree.

While Thompson and Nadler’s run on Cable might be over, the two will not be resting on their laurels. They will partner with Jake Wyatt to reintroduce fan-favorite character Peni Parker and her Spider-Man-themed mech suit SP//dr in Edge of Spider-Geddon #2. Thompson and Nadler’s Cable ends in July with Cable #159.
