Zack Snyder shared a new image intended for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that features Wonder Woman clutching the severed heads of several dead enemies. The image, which Snyder unveiled on ComicBook Debate, was a placeholder that was eventually replaced by the photo of Diana Prince, Steven Trevor and company during World War I. This version would have been taken during the Crimean War, which saw the likes of the Ottoman Empire, France and the British Empire defeat the Russian Empire and Kurdish rebels in the 1850s. Notably, this was the first major war to feature photographic documentation.RELATED: Wonder Woman 1984 Has a Major Batman v Superman Connection

Patty Jenkins, who directed both Wonder Woman and its sequel, recently confirmed there was some back-and-forth with Warner Bros. on having Diana depicted in such a savage manner. "There was such mistrust of a different way of doing things and a different point of view," she explained on Marc Maron's WTF podcast. "So that was definitely happening, even when I first joined Wonder Woman it was like, 'Uhh, yeah, ok, but let’s do it this other way.' But I was like, 'Women don’t want to see that. Her being harsh and tough and cutting people’s heads off, that’s not what— I’m a Wonder Woman fan, that’s not what we’re looking for.' Still, I could feel that shaky nervousness [on their part] of my point of view."
