It's well known that 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice lifts a lot from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns comic, from Batman's jaded view of the world to his use of guns to the bulky suits he wears over the course of the film. But before Ben Affleck rocked the grey and black, the film's team toyed with a look that was a bit less grim and gritty.
As you can see in the image below,, posted by concept artist Jerad Merantz on Instagram, the concept art leaned more toward a hi-tech and futuristic look than what actually ended up on film. Fans of the Arkham games, will likely see an influence from that universe in the metallic sheen of the Batsuit, along with the design of the cowl. In the end, this idea only lasted for a week before the art team was told to go with a more "classic" look.

Believe it or not This was a very early pass on the #batmanvssuperman #batsuit . Before we got the note to do a classic #Batman I was exploring futuristic and techy options. I think the exploration only lasted for about a week and was so excited when we were told to do a classic Batman suit. #dcuniverse #photoshop #zbrush #bat #conceptart #
The comments, for what it's worth, seem to dig the look that could've been, with some remarking that it looks like a suit Iron Man would think up for Batman. Still, unless Warner Bros. is planning on releasing a Batman Beyond movie in the near future, you'll just have to settle for this as it is -- a possibility.
