REPORT: Bumblebee Movie Reboots Transformers Film Franchise

Bumblebee was arguably the best Transformers film to date, with a scaled-back scope and strong character work helping make it the most personal and memorable entry in the franchise. The film takes place decades before the earlier films in the series and served as a prequel to those movies. However, it appears Bumblebee may not just be a prequel anymore.

TFW2005 attended New York Toy Fair 2019 and reported on Transformers revelations from the Hasbro Product Presentation. While the panel primarily concerned the upcoming Transformers models and toys coming from Hasbro, the panel also revealed Bumblee acts as a reboot for the Transformers film franchise.

Bumblebee was referred to as being "a new storytelling universe," which suggests the success of the newest Transformers film is going to lead to a whole new continuity for the Transformers movies going forward. The panel also revealed new details on the recently announced Transformers: War for Cybertron prequel series heading to Netflix in 2020.

The sequel to Bumblebee is reportedly already in the early stages of development.

Directed by Travis Knight from a script by Christina Hodson, Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Pamela Adlon, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. Bumblee arrives on digital platforms March 19 and Blu-ray April 2.
