Paramount is taking the Tranformers franchise back to the series' roots by setting the Bumblebee spinoff film in the 1980s. Following the news that the studio cast True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld in one of the spinoff's leading roles, the actress has now taken to Twitter to show off her character's digs from the era of neon and hair metal.

Sporting a black Motörhead tank top and frayed, rolled up blue jeans, Steinfeld looks like she'll fit right in Bumblebee's 1987 setting. The film will follow Steinfeld’s character Charlie as she discovers a battle-scarred yellow Volkwagen Beetle in a junkyard, only to learn there’s more to the fan-favorite Autobot than meets the eye.

Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and wrestler-turned-actor John Cena will join Steinfeld in the film. The studio has promised the Bumblebee spinoff will offer a drastically different tone than Michael Bay's quadrilogy, specifically comparing it to Brad Bird's The Iron Giant.

Directed by Kubo and the Two Strings helmer Travis Knight with a script by Christina Hodson, Paramount is expected to roll out Bumblebee theatrically at some point in 2018.
