Bumblebee Voice Actor Spoils Identity of Red Fighter Jet Decepticon

The identity of the mysterious Decepticon menacing the characters in the trailer for Paramount's Transformers spinoff Bumblebee has been revealed.

Voice actor Sobolov tweeted that he will be providing the voice of Blitzwing in the upcoming prequel. The previously unnamed Decepticon had briefly appeared in the trailer for the film in the form of a red fighter jet pursuing the eponymous Autobot, its identity kept under wraps.

Taking place in 1987, twenty years before the rest of the live-action Transformers film series, the spinoff prequel reveals the early days of Bumblebee seeking refuge on Earth when he befriends a teenage girl in Southern California. The duo finds themselves pursued by both the government and the Decepticons with Blitzwing joining Barricade, Shatter, and Dropkick in the film.

Sobolov has had a very prolific career in voice acting including providing the voice of Gorilla Grodd on The CW's The Flash and the animated series Justice League Action as well as voicing Lobo on Young Justice and the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us.

With Blitzwing making his live-action debut in the upcoming spinoff, Bumblebee is going to need all the help he can get to make it out alive.

Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) from a script by Christina Hodson, Bumblebeestars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Pamela Adlon, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos, and Gracie Dzienny. The film is scheduled for release on December 21.
