Director David Leitch has made a name for himself thanks to his portrayal of gritty action in films such as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw. However, he pushed himself further than ever before with Bullet Train, as he brought all of his no-holds-barred action into an enclosed space. The film centers around an assassin named Ladybug (Brad Pitt) who wants nothing more than to live a more quiet and honorable life. But as these stories go, he has one more job to complete. However, his plans get derailed, and he finds himself on a high-speed train with other assassins from his past that want him dead.
Many big names appeared in Bullet Train, including Bad Bunny, Zazie Beetz and Bryan Tyree Henry. But during an Entertainment Weekly interview, Leitch revealed why Lady Gaga was unable to join the cast, and the answer showed how Hollywood magic doesn't always come in handy.
Scheduling Conflicts Prevented Lady Gaga From Being in Bullet Train
According to Leitch, Gaga couldn't join the film due to her commitments with Ridley Scott's film, House of Gucci. He further explained, "There were short discussions and then, this isn't going to work because she was preparing for the Ridley movie [House of] Gucci. They shot right before us and overlapped with us and it really didn't work." In the end, while it would've been a treat to see the singer/actor in such a unique and stylized film, scheduling became the enemy.
After being asked who Lady Gaga was originally supposed to play, Leith said he wanted to leave it a mystery. Though since then, Collider has reported that Sandra Bullock took her place as Ladybug's handler, who put him on the deadly train in the first place.
How Lady Gaga Could Fit Into Bullet Train's Future
Aside from being a standard action film about a man trying to leave his deadly lifestyle, Bullet Train showed that there was more to him and the assassins than what's on the surface. Not only was there a larger enemy in play, but also an established crime syndicate that has spanned the globe.
That could open the door for future Bullet Train sequels and spin-offs that delve into this universe. So although Lady Gaga may not have featured in Bullet Train, there still may be a place for her in the future.
