Readers can choose a side -- #TeamSlayer or #TeamVamp -- with a pair of variant covers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1, debuting in January from BOOM! Studios.

Debuting on CBR, the variants by artist Miguel Mercado (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) allow fans to side with the Chosen One (#TeamSlayer) or else back the vampires (#TeamVamp). Their design is intended to allow fans to hold the covers up to their faces to signal their true allegiance: the smirking, stake-wielding Slayer, or the fanged demon.

Mercado's variants join a pair by Kaiti Infante, depicting Willow Rosenberg and Vampire Willow, a main cover by Matthew Taylor, and previously announced variants by Kevin Wada, Royal Dunlap, Becca Carey and Jen Bartel.

Written by Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and illustrated by Dan Mora (Klaus, Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), with the involvement of Buffy creator Joss Whedon, the new BOOM! series reimagines the beloved series from the beginning. The comic will reintroduce Buffy Summers, who struggles to make friends at a new high school even as she tries to escape her destiny as the latest in a long line of vampire slayers. The series promises to be a blend of the new and the familiar, as the Scooby Gang faces different challenges, to say nothing of a new Big Bad.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 goes on sale Jan. 9 from BOOM! Studios.
