Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Universe Expands, Introducing All-New Slayers

Buffy Summers has been defending her California hometown of Sunnydale from vampires and other occult evil as the latest Chosen One, but she is far from being the first one in history.

In a new oversized one-shot anthology special from Boom! Studios this August, the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is about to get a lot bigger, with three previous Slayers centuries before the events of the series introduced by a whole host of writers and artists. Titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Ones #1, the special introduces a Slayer from 16th century Marusthali, India by Alexa Sharpe, a Slayer from 18th century California in a tale from writer Mairghread Scott and artist Ornella Savarese, and 14th-century Slayer in Italy from writer and artist Celia Lowenthal. In addition to expanding the universe of the fan-favorite franchise, the special will inform the future of the current comic book series moving forward.

"Buffy might be the Slayer you know best, but she's not the only incredible woman to be a Chosen One—and you're getting the first appearance of three new Slayers in this issue, as well as the never-before-seen origins of the Sunnydale Hellmouth!" Boom! Studios executive editor Jeanine Schaefer in a declared written statement. "Mairghread, Ornella, Celia, and Alexa dig into the secret origins of these important characters from the past who'll have a huge impact on Buffy's future!”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Ones #1 is written and illustrated by a whole host of comic creators. It is scheduled to be released on August 28 from Boom! Studios.
