Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Sarah Michelle Gellar makes her return to television monster-hunting in the upcoming Paramount+ series Wolf Pack -- and it sounds like protégé has officially become the mentor, with Gellar describing herself as the "Rupert Giles" of the show.

On Wolf Pack, Gellar portrays an arson investigator named Kristin Ramsey. During an interview with Den of Geek, the actor was asked about the bond she shares with her younger castmates, and what it's like to step into the role of the mentor figure. "Rodrigo [Santoro, who plays park Garrett Briggs] and I joke about that a lot," Gellar replied. "Because he and I, both growing up, were always the youngest on set. He was like the young stud, and I was always the baby. Everybody was always older. And we joke, we look around, and we're like, 'Oh wait, we're the old ones now.'"

The outlet then proclaimed that Gellar is the "Giles" now. "I'm the Giles," the actor agreed. "A little bit different, but yes, and definitely behind the scenes, I'm the Giles. I've gone through so much, and you hope that the younger age groups you work with are open to hearing and learning. And this group is just that. It's like they're sponges, and they listen." On Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers' (Gellar) father figure and mentor was Rupert Giles, played by Anthony Stewart Head.

Wolf Pack Premieres on Paramount+ in January

Wolf Pack is slated to premiere on Paramount+ on Jan. 26, 2023. Based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Edo van Belkom, the series is developed by Jeff Davis. Davis is perhaps best known as the creator of the 2011-2017 MTV series Teen Wolf, itself a re-imagining of the 1985 Michael J. Fox film of the same name. Given its similar, werewolf-centric subject matter, as well as Davis' involvement, Wolf Pack can be seen as something of an offshoot of Teen Wolf. Crucially, however, Wolf Pack is not a spinoff of Teen Wolf, and takes place in its own universe.

That said, MTV's Teen Wolf is getting a feature film continuation in the form of Teen Wolf: The Movie, which is slated to premiere on Paramount+ on Jan. 26 -- the very same day as Wolf Pack. The film is directed by Russell Mulcahy from a script by Davis, with numerous Teen Wolf stars attached to reprise their roles from the TV show.
