Mattson Tomlin, screenwriter of the upcoming Netflix film BRZRKR starring Keanu Reeves, has revealed that the movie's script is finished.Tomlin posted a photo to his Twitter account of the title page of the BRZRKR screenplay. This tweet was preceded by a prior post from Tomlin with an image of what appears to be the final page of the script. Previously, in June 2022, Tomlin tweeted, "Unhinged and deranged that I've been allowed to write this movie."
The film will be adapted from the BRZRKR comic series originally created by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt, with art by Ron Garney. In Hall H at San Diego Comic Con 2022, Reeves described the comic's protagonist as "cursed by violence trying to find out who he is." The film was originally announced in March 2021, along with an anime spinoff series on Netflix. Reeves will star as the title character, also known simply as "B," in both the live-action film and anime series. In the comic, this character is drawn in Reeves' likeness.
Tomlin was announced as the screenwriter for the BRZRKR film in October 2021. He has seen great success in other recent projects, notably as a co-writer on the critical and financial hit The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. Tomlin has also previously collaborated with Netflix on the film Project Power (2020), starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Additionally, Tomlin is the showrunner and executive producer on Netflix's upcoming Terminator anime series. In July 2021, he confirmed the completion of the scripts for the first season of the series. Tomlin was also a story consultant on the 2022 Netflix animated film Sea Beast.
The BRZRKR film does not yet have a director officially attached. Keanu Reeves has a slate of multiple projects in pre-production, including the television miniseries The Devil in the White City and the recently announced Constantine 2, reuniting with director Francis Lawrence for the sequel to their 2005 film. The wildly popular John Wick franchise led by Reeves has two more films on the horizon as well. John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently in post-production, scheduled for a March 2023 release, with a forthcoming fifth installment also ostensibly on the way.
Written by Mattson Tomlin and starring Keanu Reeves, BRZRKR is set to be distributed by Netflix, but does not currently have a release date.
