Sam Raimi didn't offer any details Friday at Comic-Con International when he announced he's writing an Evil Dead television series with his brother Ivan, Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert. However, Campbell himself later popped up on Twitter to drop an additioanl tidbit: He's set to star.

The day after Raimi delivered the news, a fan tweeted to Campbell, "Only if @GroovyBruce is the STAR of this new tv series will I accept. Don't make a fool out of us long time fans." The actor replied, "That's the plan."

In 1978, longtime friends Campbell and Raimi made a horror short called Within the Woods that was a kind of video resume to raise money for the next project, which wound up being The Evil Dead. After securing funding, the cast and crew headed into the Michigan woods to film the movie about a group of college friends who take a trip to a cabin that just so happens to house the Book of the Dead, a malicious tome that unleashes demons. The film gained a pair of sequels called Evil Dead II in 1987 and Army of Darkness in 1992.

Raimi and Campbell were producers of director  Fede Alvarez's 2013 remake/reimagining, but the actor didn't portray Ash Williams. The $17 million  film earned $97.5 million worldwide. A sequel was announced last year, but Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues are not involved.
