Bruce Campbell is as excited as fans are for his return to fighting Deadites in the upcoming Starz series "Ash Vs. Evil Dead." Set in the same world as the film franchise, the show catches up with Ash as he travels from town to town, trying to keep a low profile, deal with his demon-filled past and take on any new threats.

“I’m bringing everything to the table," Campbell tells Dread Central. "It’s a feisty version of Ash, who’s grizzled and just wants to be left alone.”

He says fan disappointment about the lack of Ash in the 2013 "Evil Dead" remake helped lead to the TV series, which he says will be in line with another cable horror favorite.

“We are competitive with ‘The Walking Dead,’ like, ‘We’ll show those fuckers!’ [Our] Deadites are very clever," Campbell says. "They're not stupid shufflers. They can mimic people; they can drive cars. They’re a fun threat. They [‘The Walking Dead’] are right up there [though] with being responsible for the current resurgence [of horror].”

Produced by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, Rob Tapert and Campbell, "Ash Vs. Evil Dead" recently cast  Jill Marie Jones, Ray Santiago and Kelly Maxwell ahead of the start of filming in April in New Zealand.
