There's no doubt that the NBC hit Brooklyn Nine-Nine has an incredible main cast. From Captain Holt, to Gina, to Jake, there's no end to the perfect one-liners, subtle humor and over the top bits, but it's not just the main cast that makes the show great. In fact, the secondary characters help set the stories in motion and keep the main characters from getting stale.

Whether it's a hilarious car thief, an off-the-wall undercover cop or an adorable dog, the secondary characters on Brooklyn Nine-Nine are incredibly unique and undoubtedly hilarious. Here's a breakdown of the best secondary and one-off characters ever to make an appearance at the 99th Precinct.

10. Cheddar

cheddar Brooklyn nine nine

Arguably one of the cutest pups on the planet, Captain Holt and his husband Kevin's dog, Cheddar, is way more than just a pet. Every time he makes an appearance on screen the audience is prone to squeal with delight, whether he's helping pull off a Halloween heist, being dog-napped or having an Instagram photo shoot with Gina. However, only true fans know how to tell the difference between the real Cheddar and some "common b***h."

9. Roger Peralta

Roger Peralta Brooklyn 99

One of the show's running gags is Jake's daddy issues, so it's no wonder that the man at the center of the joke is one of the show's best characters. He was an absent father in Jake's childhood, using his career as a pilot as an excuse to travel the world, meet women and have numerous children. Roger Peralta is a terrible person, but as a character he's absolutely hilarious. Actor Bradley Whitford nails the role, executing everything perfectly from the obvious jokes to the throwaway lines.

8. David Santiago

David Santiago Brooklyn 99

Guest star Lin-Manuel Miranda plays Amy's brother and rival in almost every manner possible. As one of Amy's seven brothers, each sibling fought for their parent's approval, as well as for their photo to be displayed proudly on the mantle. David seems to be even more perfect than Amy is, if that's even possible. He doesn't own a television, doesn't follow pop culture, has a platinum certificate in marksmanship - Amy only has gold - and got a perfect score on his Lieutenant's exam. The competition between the two is hilarious, as is Amy's reaction when she thinks David is arrested for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Despite appearing in only one episode, David Santiago is a perfect character.

7. Teddy

teddy Brooklyn 99

As the most boring man alive, Amy's ex-boyfriend Teddy provides endless comic relief in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He is the perfect contrast to the wild and animated members of the 99th precinct, making him stand out despite his complete lack of a personality. His passion for pilsners is obnoxious, his favorite soda is diet ginger ale and his favorite app is contacts. He also has an intense obsession with Amy, proposing to her a number of times, including in front of his current girlfriend, as well as on Amy's wedding day with Jake.

6. The Vulture

the vulture Brooklyn 99

Similar to Roger Peralta, the Vulture is a fan favorite because of how awful the character is. As a detective in the Major Crimes Unit of the NYPD, the Vulture goes out of his way to annoy the 99, and he will essentially stop at nothing to impose his terrible personality on the main cast of characters. He's obnoxious, sexist, arrogant and condescending, and he swoops in to take over cases that are 98% solved, hence his nickname. Still, the show would not be the same without this absolutely outrageous character.

5. Bill Hummertrout

bill and Boyle Brooklyn 99

This mysterious character appears in the Halloween Heist episodes of the series as a body double for Charles Boyle, due to their remarkable resemblance. Every time Bill pops up on screen, hilarity ensues, largely because of the bits and pieces of his backstory being subtly revealed. Viewers know his safe word is "cabbage," he grew up in Bean Station, Tennessee, was abandoned at a playground as an infant and doesn't have a bellybutton. He also may or may not be a prostitute, but he certainly is involved in the NutriBoom pyramid scheme.

4. Madeline Wuntch

Wuntch Brooklyn 99

Another classic villain in the series, Madeline Wuntch is known for her incredible rivalry with Captain Holt. The backstory of this competition is revealed slowly throughout the series, and the extent of their relationship is never entirely clear. However, viewers are sure that she had feelings for Holt before he came out publicly, and that she embarrassed herself in front of Derek Jeter. The insults slung between Wuntch and Holt are priceless, making their dynamic one of the best on the show.

3. Kevin Cozner

Kevin and Holt in Brooklyn 99

Kevin is the robotic husband of the equally robotic Captain Holt, and they appear to be a match made in heaven. He is the head of the classics department at Columbia University, and it's noted a number of times that he and his academic circle look down on Holt's role in the police force, considering Holt to be a "bimbo." He's known for placing garbage gently in the bin with both hands, enjoying completely silent drives with his husband to Saratoga Springs and his burgeoning love of Nicholas Cage films, thanks to Jake.

2. Doug Judy

Doug Judy Brooklyn 99

The Pontiac bandit aka Horatio Velveteen aka Big Sugar is one of the most lovable characters in the entire series. Since he's a wanted criminal, his relationship with Jake is complicated but charming nonetheless. According to Holt, Doug Judy has over 600 felony counts, including Grand Theft Auto and one count of Dog Fraud, when he tried to sell a cat passing as a pekingese dog. His love for Rosa, as well as his songwriting abilities, made viewers fall in love with him, even if Rosa herself did not.

1. Adrian Pimento

Adrian Pimento wants to start a fire

The former undercover detective Adrian Pimento is one of the funniest and most mysterious characters in the series. Bits and pieces of his past come to light through casual conversation, including the fact he lost his virginity at a screening of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, he lost his sense of smell in a shipwreck and both of his parents died from falling out of lighthouses in two completely separate incidents. There are essentially endless possibilities with this character, evident in the fact that he pops up seemingly out of nowhere throughout the series.
