The latest teaser photo from the upcoming superhero/horror film Brightburn shows us an eerie photo of the film's child supervillain.
The image, which was posted on the film’s Twitter, shows Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn) dressed in plain clothes with a tattered red cape tied around his neck. He holds his mask in one of his hands. The shadow cast on his face as he looks down gives him and his forest background an ominous horror movie feel. This is highlighted by the post's caption: “You will know his name.”
Brightburn tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Breyer, who discover a child in the remains of a spaceship that crash lands near their farm. As the boy, whom they name Brandon, grows up, the Breyers discover that he has amazing powers. However, they also soon discover that he's more of a supervillain than a superhero.
The idea of an evil Superman has been the subject of several comic book, animated movies and video game. Those stories include such classics as Ultraman from the Crime Syndicate, Overman from a Nazi-dominated world, Superman from the Justice Lords in the animated Justice League and Superman from the Injustice video game series.
Brightburn is produced by Gunn and written by his brother Brian and cousin Mark. David Yarovesky will direct the movie, which stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner. It premieres May 24, 2019.
