The James Gunn-produced supervillain origin story Brightburn officially has a release date for Blu-Ray, DVD and digital.

Brightburn tells the story of a boy with similar origins to Superman, but instead of becoming a hero, he becomes a villain. The film released in theaters on May 24, 2019 and was met with mostly mixed reviews. It currently sits at a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes for critic reviews and a 44% on Metacritic. Audiences on Rotten Tomatoes scored the film a little higher at 67%.

Brightburn is set to release digitally on Aug. 6 and will drop on DVD and Ultra HD Blu-Ray 4K on Aug. 20. Bonus features will include a “Hero-Horror!” featurette, “Nature vs. Nurture” featurette and filmmaker commentary. Also included are three “Quick Burns” vignettes, which will be hosted by James Gunn, David Yarovesky and one of the film's stars, Elizabeth Banks.

There is some speculation for a Brightburn sequel, but no official word has been said. Producer James Gunn may not have time though, as he is writing and directing both The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
