With Brie Larson's debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe less than a month away, the Academy Award-winning actor has earned a record payday for her performance in Captain Marvel.
Larson received a reported salary of $5 million for the upcoming film, making her MCU debut the highest paid one for any superhero in the MCU in their respective solo film.
Robert Downey, Jr., currently the highest paid actor in the MCU overall, made a reported $500,000 for his performance in 2008's Iron Man while the latest actor to star in their own solo film, Chadwick Boseman, made $2 million for his performance in last year's Black Panther with both salaries before reflecting box office points which Larson will be eligible for based on Captain Marvel's commercial performance.
As, to date, the only Academy Award-winning MCU superhero, Larson's casting certainly comes from critical prestige. This coupled with concerted efforts by Marvel Studios' parent company, Disney, to promote pay equity between men and women in the industry has led to a nice payday for the latest MCU star.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck from a script they wrote with Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau. The film arrives on March 8, 2019.
