The Marvels star Brie Larson has hit back at online trolls with two joyful photos of the upcoming film's primary cast and director.

Following up on a somber-sounding red carpet interview comment made about her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Larson shared some auspicious images on Twitter, which show her alongside fellow The Marvels stars Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris, joined by director Nia DaCosta. The photos came with the caption "*trolls combust*," in response to the overtly sexist backlash her debut as Carol Danvers in 2019's Captain Marvel received, which has also affected other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects such as She-Hulk.

Larson's post provided a more upbeat tone for fans after she confessed her own uncertainty at reprising her MCU role beyond The Marvels. When asked how long she would continue playing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Larson answered, "I don't know. Does anyone want me to do it again? I really don't know. I don't have the answer to that." Her version of Captain Marvel was last seen during the mid-credits scene of Ms. Marvel's season finale, which found the hero inspecting a glowing object in the bedroom of Vellani's Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, before teleporting away to someplace still unknown.

The Marvels, as a sequel to Captain Marvel, will follow the exploits of Larson's eponymous cosmic-powered hero as she teams up with Vellani's Ms. Marvel and Parris' Monica Rambeau. Closed-door footage from Disney's D23 Expo revealed that the three heroes will become unexpectedly intertwined, as all of them begin to trade places whenever one uses their respective powers. The Marvels will also see Samuel L. Jackson reprise his role as Nick Fury and Zawe Ashton will make her MCU debut as a yet unknown character who is presumed to be the film's primary antagonist.

Larson has previously opened up about the film, acknowledging how only a few details have been made public regarding its story. "I wish I could talk about it. I can talk about my feelings around it," Larson said. "I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future." Larson also promised fans some truly unexpected turns, explaining, "And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers."

The Marvels is set to crash into theaters on July 28, 2023.
