Brie Larson has portrayed a number of roles, including Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, as is the case for many actor, there were quite a number of roles that she auditioned for and didn't get throughout her career.

On her official YouTube channel, Larson posted a new video as the second part of her "Audition Storytime" series. There she discussed how she auditioned for a wide range of roles in various film and television projects, facing multiple rejections. "That's a lot of heartbreak, folks," Larson said while discussing the rejections. Among the films Larson auditioned for included parts in Iron Man and Iron Man 2, as well as James Cameron's Avatar and Sucker Punch. Television roles she auditioned for included Halt and Catch Fire and The Big Bang Theory.

For the parts she did get, Larson described her process of getting into character. When she was cast as Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, she said that her vocal performance was inspired by the Adult Video Awards. Talk then turned to her Captain Marvel role, which she received a call about while working on Kong: Skull Island.

Larson revealed that she initially declined the role, several times in fact, saying it was "too much" for her. After meeting with Marvel Studios, she recalled being "moved" by their take on Carol Danvers. "It was amazing, I loved everything they had to say."
