Dear gentle readers, Bridgerton Season 2 is just around the corner. With that anticipation comes a long list of hopes and wishes for the new season. One of the things near the top of said list is a little more of Francesca Bridgerton. Now, in all fairness, Francesca's story doesn't begin for a few more years, but that doesn't mean she isn't deeply missed each time the Bridgerton family gathers for a ball or dinner and everyone is present but her. Season 2 gives fans another chance to get to know Francesca as an influential member of the Bridgerton universe. But will she have more screen time?

Bridgerton Season 1 follows Daphne Bridgerton's love story with Simon, the Duke of Hastings. It's a passionate tale stemming from a fake relationship to benefit both parties. Of course, as the genre encourages, Daphne and Simon live happily ever after. The same is true in the book the season is based on — Julia Quinn's The Duke & I. Each season of the Netflix series, which debuted in 2020, follows a different Bridgerton's love story. The upcoming second season will follow Anthony's enemies-to-lovers romance with Kate Sharma. When He Was Wicked, Francesca's book, should be adapted in Season 6, as it's the sixth book.

The alluring Season 2 teaser trailer features all of the Bridgerton siblings, except for one, which means the lack of Francesca's involvement is becoming quite the pattern. A full trailer could illuminate the matter more, but Bridgerton could wait to answer pressing questions regarding Francesca when the season drops on the streaming service next month. As disappointing as it may be, the series could indeed push Francesca into its peripheral vision again. There are a few reasons this may or may not happen, and all of them encourage patience and trust in the Bridgerton team.

Beyond the teaser, Francesca is featured in only one of the released images promoting Season 2, which shouldn't be surprising at this point, considering she is absent for most of Season 1. The show answers questions about her by explaining that Francesca spent the duration of the season in Bath with her Aunt Winnie. This excuse isn't out of bounds for Regency-era young women who have not debuted on the marriage mart, since they often spend time with family elsewhere. Similarly, it makes sense for Bridgerton only to say as much and not follow Francesca on her adventures in Bath. Season 1 isn't about her — it's about Daphne and Simon.

The anthology series won't get to Francesca's complicated personal quest for love for a few more years. Hopefully, the show remains as popular (if not more so) until then so that Francesca's story can jump off the pages of Julia Quinn's books. That, however, isn't to say that Bridgerton cannot benefit from developing the character before then. Waiting four more years to do so could dampen the appeal of Francesca by the time her season comes around. After all, Francesca will need to meet, marry and lose her first husband before that sixth season. Luckily, Bridgerton Season 2 ushers in the 1814 season — Eloise's debut in the marriage mart.

That new season creates plenty of potential for Francesca. In Season 1, Violet grants Eloise's wishes of delaying her debut, but that time has run out. Because of that, there is a chance that the new season will see Francesca debut alongside her older sister. Of course, Eloise can turn to her best friend Penelope as she becomes frustrated with the entire system of balls and suitors, but Eloise could turn to Francesca if Bridgerton sees fit. That alone could elevate Francesca's involvement with the Bridgerton clan. If not, there are ways to keep Francesca in the Bridgerton loop without entirely removing her from the narrative with another trip to visit an obscure family member.

Francesca is still too young to incorporate the elements of her story that must happen before When He Was Wicked. The same is true for Hyacinth and Gregory, yet their petty arguments get screen time. Season 2 could incorporate Francesca in a minor role similar to that of her younger siblings. Alternatively, Francesca can jump on and off screen, building up the Ton's believability. Such would help suspend disbelief that characters like Edwina and Kate Sharma, Sophie Beckett, and even Phillip Crane exist within the Bridgerton universe — simply waiting for their time to make their debut.
