Executive producer Shonda Rhimes led Bridgerton to be Netflix's biggest series ever.

Rhimes shared that having the hit television show on a streaming service -- and not having to follow network directives -- allowed Bridgerton to focus on a women's view of romance. "What I liked was the ability to explore things from a woman's point of view," Rhimes told Vanity Fair. "I wanted the female gaze happening in the books to happen on television."

Rhimes added, "But even more than that, what was cool that we could do on Netflix is tell a closed-ended tale. Here's this season; here's a fully formed romance. [On network] you have to take that romance and stretch it out for as many seasons as you possibly can."

Ahead of Bridgerton's Season 2 release, Netflix renewed the Rhimes-led series for two additional seasons on its streaming platform. Netflix Vice President of Global TV Bela Bajaria shared the good news, stating, "They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come."

Bridgerton stars Simone Ashley, Phoebe Dynevor, Jonathan Bailey, Nicola Coughlan, Claudia Jessie, Ruby Barker, Golda Rosheuvel, Luke Thompson, Luke Newton, Ruth Gemmell, Polly Walker, Charithra Chandran, Rupert Young, Julie Andrews, Shelley Conn and Calam Lynch. Season 2 has yet to receive a release date.
