"Spider-Man" scribe David Koepp has joined Universal's connected monster movie universe as the writer of "Bride of Frankenstein." According to Variety, details about the plot are scarce, but the current plan is to set the film in current day. The report adds that Universal is eyeing Angelina Jolie Pitt for the titular role.

Universal will kick off the franchise with “The Mummy," the first in a series of interconnected monster movies set in a shared universe, in the style of Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe. Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Invisible Man are all reportedly also part of Universal’s plans for the franchise.

In addition to "Spider-Man," Koepp has penned screenplays for "Jurassic Park," "Mission: Impossible" and "Angels and Demons."

Directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts, “The Mummy” is scheduled for release on March 24, 2017. There are no further details about "Bride of Frankenstein" at this time.
