In a surprising move, Twentieth Century Fox has enlisted former Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis to pen a mysterious project for Deadpool director Tim Miller.

According to Deadline, Fox has brought in Bendis to write a project for Miller to helm simply titled 143. Interestingly enough, the news comes months after it was said Miller was developing a solo Kitty Pryde film for Fox. At the time, that project, which was first revealed by Collider, had no writer or star attached -- perhaps this could be the project Bendis is tackling? After all, it's entirely possible that the title 143 is a nod to 1981's Uncanny X-Men #143, which focused on Pryde after she was left behind at the X-Mansion and attacked by a N'garai demon.

Fox's decision to hire Bendis to pen the script comes as a surprise, of course, given Bendis has recently made the jump from Marvel Comics to DC Comics, where he's set to tackle Superman, among plenty of other projects. Over the course of his time at Marvel Comics, Bendis made a name for himself by creating characters such as Jessica Jones, Miles Morales, Maria Hill and Riri Williams, with three of the four having already been adapted for television or cinema.

J.R. Young (Don't Breathe) will serve as an executive producer on the mysterious project.

143 will also mark a return to Marvel for Miller who famously directed the first Deadpool film, which surprised everyone when it managed to amass over $700 million at the box office. The sequel, directed by David Leitch, is set to hit theaters on May 18.
