Brett Ratner To Produce The Next Academy Awards

Here's some news. Brett Ratner is going to co-produce the next Oscars ceremony, alongside veteran Don Mischer, Reuters reports. He's an unconventional choice, following names like Adam Shankman (Hairspray) and Bob Cohen (Milk), but not necessarily a bad one.

We got to check out the first trailer for Ratner's Tower Heist the other day, and it actually looks like it has the potential to be a fun heist action/comedy. I'll forever feel the burn of the director's touch on X-Men: The Last Stand but, as at least one commenter pointed out the other day, the Rush Hour series is a good time overall.

We can measure Ratner's hits and misses, but when you get right down to it, the guy understands how to deliver a spectacle in an entertaining way. The Academy Awards ceremony is a major spectacle, no question, but it isn't always an entertaining one. Ratner's definitely equipped to do something fun. I'll be curious to see how it all comes together.
