Nintendo has officially unveiled the latest iteration of the Nintendo Switch, simply called the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model).

The device, which has been rumored for years, includes several significant upgrades over its predecessors. The biggest improvement is the addition of a 7-inch OLED screen, a significant step up from the standard Switch's 6.2-inch LCD screen. The dock for the device has been overhauled to provide more support when standing on a flat surface. Previously, a single flap would prop the Switch up, but this new model features a stand that comprises the whole bottom half of the console.

The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) also supports several significant dock upgrades. Fans of multiplayer games like Splatoon and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will no doubt be pleased to see the inclusion of a dedicated LAN port on the new dock. This new Switch also sports 64GB of internal storage and "enhanced audio." Nintendo has yet to elaborate on how the devices' speakers have been improved.

The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will still only support "up to 1080p via HDMI in TV mode," dispelling rumors that the next iteration of the console will offer 4K resolution outputs. In terms of internal hardware, it appears that this new Switch seemingly includes no hardware upgrades over the original model.

“The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.”
