Fan-favorite comic book creators Zack Kaplan and Wilton Santos are teaming up for the first time with the new Dark Horse Comics series Break Out, unveiling an exclusive preview of the first issue with CBR.

Launching this April, Break Out has extraterrestrials from other dimensions travel to Earth's cities and routinely whisk away teenagers in cube-shaped vessels. After a young man named Liam Watt loses his younger brother, Tommy, to these otherworldly prisons, he sets out to rescue his abducted sibling when the governments of the world dismiss him as another lost cause. Assembling a crack team of seemingly ordinary fellow teens, Liam is poised to carry out the most daring, space-bending prison break the universe has ever seen as he and his friends plan a jailbreak of cosmic proportions.

Joining writer Zack Kaplan and artist Wilton Santos are colorist Jason Wordie and letterer Jim Campbell to round out the creative team for the upcoming comic book miniseries. Set to unfold over the course of four issues, Break Out is set to test the youth with a literal existential threat, targeted by this extra-dimensional menace. Fed up with being persecuted and dismissed, Liam and his ragtag crew are ready to not only reclaim those considered lost causes by society but to retake their own future from the otherworldly invaders by any means necessary.

After co-creating imaginative sci-fi titles like Eclipse and Port of Earth for Image Comics and Top Cow Productions, Kaplan has kicked off the year with an entire line of new comic projects. Kaplan is returning to Image/Top Cow with the upcoming five-issue miniseries Metal Society while also working on a future project with Vault Comics, with specifics currently kept under wraps for the latter project. Additionally, television adaptations of both Eclipse and Port of Earth remain in development.

Written by Zack Kaplan and illustrated by Wilton Santos, Break Out #1 goes on sale April 13 from Dark Horse Comics.
