Brandon Routh, who portrays Superman in Superman Returns, took to Twitter with a message that would make the Man of Steel proud. Routh posted a picture of himself wearing a facemask emblazoned with Superman's signature S-shield, asking others to do the same."I don't always play a superhero but when I do...I care about those around me and if there was the slightest chance I could spread a highly contagious deadly virus to my loved ones/strangers without my awareness, I'd wear a mask." Routh wrote. "Protecting fellow citizens honors the #AmericanWay."RELATED: DC Comics' Tom King Slams Dean Cain Over Superman Comments

Routh is not the only superhero actor to encourage others to wear face masks. Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker in Marvel's Spider-Man, posted a video of himself wearing a Spider-Man mask and asked his followers to make sure they wore theirs.

Superman Returns premiered in 2006 to poor critical reception, leading to the cancellation of a planned sequel. However, Routh would reprise the role in the Arrowverse's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, this time incorporating elements from Mark Waid and Alex Ross' Kingdom Come series. He also portrayed Ray Palmer/The Atom on Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, departing the latter in season five.
