The antagonist of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos impressed fans not only with his immense power, but also with actor Josh Brolin's sympathetic portrayal even as he's threatening to wipe out half of the universe. Some even came away from the Marvel Studios blockbuster feeling convinced his motives actually made sense.

Apparently, that includes Bradley Cooper, who voices Rocket Raccoon. During an interview with BBC Radio 1, Cooper talked about his process playing Rocket and also offered his thoughts on the Avengers films, and why Thanos is such an effective character.

Cooper compared Brolin's performance to Marlon Brando, saying, "He was amazing. That's why that movie works. Thanos is, what a character -- the fact that he made you kind of go, like, 'He's got a point!'"

In the movie, Thanos claims the resources of the universe are being consumed too quickly to sustain, and the only way to avoid starvation and misery is to eliminate half of all life so that the survivors have a greater chance to thrive. Although ruthless in pursuit of his goal, he approaches it as a burden that only he can bear, which some viewers found compelling enough to consider his perspective might not necessarily be the wrong one.

"Part of me is like, 'I'm glad he's sitting there in his chair, with the sun coming down,'" Cooper said. "I mean, I hate that everybody, that half the world's dead, but there's a part of me that ... he succeeded! And I don't know what that says about me ..."

Avengers 4 will be released on May 4, 2019. The lasting effects of Thanos's plan are yet to be seen, but his supporters can be glad to know that he's had his day in the sun.
