Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment have set their sights on Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff's young adult novel "Illuminae." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pitt will produce a film adaptation of the sci-fi novel alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.

Taking place in the year 2575, the book follows a teenage hacker named Kady and her fighter pilot ex-boyfriend Ezra. Told through a series of found documents, texts, instant messages, ship schematics, casualty lists and classified files, they unearth a conspiracy about an intergalactic war, which puts them in the cross-hairs of two rival megacorporations. Despite the fact they are barely speaking to one another, Kady and Ezra must face hostile warships, a plague and more.

Kaufman's "Starbound Trilogy" is also in development at MGM. Kristoff is known for his "Lotus War" fantasy series. Their collaborative novel ""Illuminae" became a New York Times Young Adult Hardcover Bestseller immediately following its release in October.

The studio, which became interested in the project after reviewing an early manuscript, is currently seeking writers. Jesse Ehrman and Julia Spiro will oversee the project for the studio.
