Brad Pitt scalped Nazis in Inglourious Basterds, and is set to return to World War II, courtesy of David Ayer's tank drama Fury, opening in November. But the veteran actor's interest in that era is far from depleted, based on the first word of Pitt's newest project.

Deadline reports he's circling an untitled World War II drama penned by Steven Knight, who wrote David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises and and the forthcoming Seventh Son. There's no title yet, nor is there a director, but Deadline states that "a big director will be set with an eye toward starting production early next year."

As for the story, details are light, but the film is described as a romantic thriller — which suggests a less pulpy adventure than Pitt's previous World War II mission under Quentin Tarantino's command, and the explosive forthcoming Fury.
