You can cross one more name off the list of potential Star Wars: Episode VII director. Brad Bird took to Twitter over the weekend to let fans know he won’t be involved with the next installment of the blockbuster franchise.
The acclaimed director of The Incredibles and Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol simply stated that, instead of working on Star Wars: Episode VII, he’s concentrating on 1952, written by Lost‘s Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. While we’ve known about that film being in the works since May, few details have been revealed.
Bird started working in animation on The Simpsons, then directed The Iron Giant and eventually moved over to Pixar, where he helmed The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The director made the jump to live action with last year’s Paramount tentpole Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.
Bird’s deft use of special effects, character development and action made him an obvious choice for many when it came to dreaming up a perfect director for the 2015 Star Wars film. Of course, this doesn’t mean he won’t be able to helm Episode VIII or IX.
