Box Brown Questions if Andy Kaufman is ‘For Real’ In New Graphic Novel

Andy Kaufman, the outlandish entertainer that passed away in 1984, is about to be introduced to a new generation with the release of Box Brown‘s newest graphic novel, “Is This Guy For Real?”

Announced via a interview and scheduled to be released in February of 2018, the illustrated adaption of Kaufman’s endeavors gives writer/artist Brown a chance to explore the complicated comedian. Brown, who recently released the hand-drawn story depicting how the pieces of Tetris formed into a phenomenon, was fascinated by the misunderstood life of the eccentric and challenging artist.

It would be curious to see how today’s society would react to Kaufman. His attention grabbing antics inspired numerous comedians and entertainers, but his humor was often centered around the misfortune of others and propagating stereotypes. It will be interesting to read Kaufman’s colorful story, presented in black and white, in a format that can handle the actor’s life which was often lived between the panels of normal life.

Kaufman’s wresting background falls into the wheelhouse of Brown, founder of Retrofit Comics, who has already explored the life of professional wrestling icon and actor Andre the Giant. Given Kaufman’s connection to the sports entertainment world, and Kaufman’s mind games, Brown’s knack of fluently capturing these moments should be on display again.
